One of the biggest challenges in the world today is this, how do we feed an overgrowing population in a manner that ensures environmental stewardship?
It is estimated that agricultural activity contributes 24% of the global carbon footprint with electricity and industrial activities at 25% and 21% respectively. The management of agricultural soils and therefore, the manner in which food is grown to feed both man and livestock, accounts for half of the carbon emissions in the agricultural industry.
If we are going to lower these numbers we have to think carefully about how we grow, process and distribute our food. By providing your customers food that has been grown organically and in your own backyard, you are tremendously reducing the impact that food production has on the environment and demonstrating a visible commitment to sustainability.
